Sept 2011
Each time Centerville hopes to make improvements to the community or events, the problem of funding appears. This is again true with the ball field renovations planned for Pascale Field. Erected in Peder Larsen Park shortly after the Centennial Celebration in 1983, Centerville Jaycees worked hard to create the current location. These diamonds have been well-used for the past 28 years with a number of areas showing extreme wear.
A small group of Centerville residents, including Shawn Johnson, Brandon Peterson and Patricia Edie have committed to finding funding and undertaking the task of bring the fields up to date. They are working to enhance the summer ball programs for both the area youth and adult sports enthusiasts.
Shawn, Brandon and Patricia have already secured $2,000 from the Centerville Area Foundation, $1,000 from Wells Fargo and $1,800 from previous concession stand sales. They have also received additional commitments, bringing their total funding available to just over $8,000. Yet, this doesn't begin to cover the expenses necessary to update the field… fences, fence guards, dug-outs, water lines and bases are just a few of the upgrades needed. Scoreboards would be a luxury and if the fundraising goals are exceeded, scoreboards will be purchased. The total needed is well over $25,000. The group has applied to the Minnesota Twins Field for Kids grant for $10,000 and also a grant for $5,000 from Sanford. The outcome of these grants is yet to be determined.
Please consider a $10, $50, $75 (or more) donation to the Dr. C.C. Pascale Ball Field Renovation Project. Your part could make a difference in the success of this project. Remember, when the ball fields are in use in town, people visit Centerville. It is an opportunity for shopping, entertainment and youth enrichment for our community.
